Some rain to kick off long weekend but otherwise sunny in Okanagan, Kamloops

Drivers should keep their eyes peeled if they’re hitting the road to visit family this Thanksgiving long weekend, but once the turkey’s in the oven it should be nice and sunny in the Okanagan and Kamloops.

Environment Canada is expecting some rain overnight, Oct. 9, and into Saturday morning, possibly some snow on the Okanagan Connector, but then a sunny Thanksgiving weekend.

“For Sunday and Monday, it looks like it’s going to be clear skies and light winds,” Environment Canada meteorologist Jennifer Kowal told iNFOnews.ca.

Temperatures are supposed to hit a daytime highs of 11 Celsius to 14 C around the Thompson-Okanagan region with overnight lows between 1 C and 4 C.

A few showers are expected overnight and they should end Saturday morning.

Most of the highway passes in the Southern Interior should just get rain, but there’s a chance the Okanagan Connector will get snow instead.

“The Connector would be the only one that would be high enough elevation that it would get snow between Kamloops and Kelowna,” she said.

If skiers and snowboarders want to get excited there might be some snow falling above 1,500 metres of elevation on the ski hills.

This past week was a bit warmer than normal, so Kowal said people might feel a bit colder than it actually is.

“It’s going to continue feeling like the temperature has dropped quite a bit because it was so warm this week,” she said. “We’re actually returning to what’s considered to be a seasonal temperature for this time of year.”

The forecast for next week is equally mild with hardly any clouds or rain.

“It looks like a pretty nice week,” she said.
