Bobcat killed after attacking couple in upstate New York

NEW SCOTLAND, N.Y. – Authorities say a bobcat has been shot and killed after it attacked a couple visiting a friend’s home outside Albany.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple says the attack occurred Wednesday afternoon at a home in the town of New Scotland, just west of Albany.

Apple says the wife was in the friend’s backyard playing with the family’s dog when the bobcat attacked her from behind. The husband came to her rescue and also was bitten.

Apple says the homeowner and the husband used a chair to pin the bobcat down before the homeowner shot the animal.

The man and woman were both treated at a hospital for bites to their arms and legs.

State wildlife management workers took the carcass away so it could be tested for rabies.
