Extreme weather hits several west European nations
THE HAGUE, Netherlands – Heavy rainfall hit several western European nations early Thursday, and one man died in the Netherlands because of flooding.
Police in the port city of Rotterdam said a 45-year-old man was found dead early Thursday, apparently electrocuted in his flooded cellar where officers also discovered an illegal cannabis nursery.
Many roads and parts of highways were flooded causing early morning traffic jams around the Netherlands and in western Belgium.
The Dutch and Belgian weather services warned of bad weather front hitting the western parts of their countries in the coming hours. France, Belgium and the Netherlands all sent out weather alerts.
Voters in parts of Britain faced floods and torrential downpours as they cast their ballots in a referendum on whether or not to remain in the European Union.
