Man dies after shooting in Swedish city of Malmo

STOCKHOLM – Swedish police say one of the four people wounded when gunmen opened fire on a car in the southern city of Malmo has died.

The shooting happened in a residential neighbourhood Sunday evening, shocking residents and fueling concerns about escalating gun violence in Sweden’s third-largest city.

Swedish media say the shooting victims were in a car when gunmen on motor scooters opened fire and then fled the scene.

One resident, Samiuddin Ahmadi, told broadcaster SVT that two stray bullets entered his apartment, narrowly missing his son.

Police said one of the four men inside the car had died. The conditions of the other three were unclear.

Like Sweden’s other major cities, Malmo has seen a rise in gun violence in the past decade, often connected to feuds between rival gangs.
