Violent Vernon incident included hit-and-run, stabbing

VERNON – Police aren’t speaking to the motive behind a hit-and-run and a stabbing in Vernon earlier this week.

RCMP say they were called to a disturbance in progress in the 3500-block of 27 Avenue on Wednesday, Feb. 10, to find a 23-year-old woman had been hit by a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle had left the road to hit the pedestrian, according to an RCMP media release.

A man at the scene walked over to the vehicle, broke the driver’s side window and stabbed the 18-year-old driver, police say. The driver and the 17-year-old boy in the passenger seat took off before RCMP got there.

The 23-year-old woman hit by the vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP tracked down the stabbed driver who was arrested and taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“A charge of assault with a weapon was approved against Abd'l-Malik Loubissi-Morris, stemming from the alleged manner in which he was driving the vehicle when it struck the pedestrian,” Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says in the release.

Police also found and arrested the stabbing suspect.

Thomas Richie, 29, is charged with assault with a weapon.

Both men have appeared in court and remain behind bars.
