1.2 kilograms of GHB, stolen property seized during impaired driving stop

KELOWNA – Stolen property, more than a kilogram of GHB and an impaired driver were taken off the streets during a traffic stop in Kelowna last week.

On March 2 just after midnight, a Kelowna RCMP officer saw a vehicle being driven erratically on Highway 97 near McCurdy Road.

The officer pulled the driver over and was suspicious he may be impaired.

Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says the driver failed a physical coordination test so he was taken to the Kelowna detachment where a Drug Recognition Expert conducted an evaluation.

During the search of the vehicle, police found 1.2 kilograms of suspected GHB and an unopened electronics product with security devices attached.

The driver, a 40-year-old Penticton man, is facing potential charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of property obtained by crime. His passenger, a 36-year-old woman also from Penticton, is facing potential charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of property obtained by crime.
