iN NUMBERS: British Columbians want to bring back the death penalty for murderers

It has been 50 years since Canada eliminated the death penalty for murder, and now a lot of people in B.C. want to bring it back.

Research Co. asked Canadians how they feel about the idea of bringing the death penalty for murderers.

Here are the numbers:

• 12: Per cent of British Columbians polled said the death penalty is always appropriate for murderers.
• 64: Per cent of British Columbians polled said the death penalty is sometimes appropriate for murderers.
• 20: Per cent of British Columbians polled said the death penalty is never appropriate.
• 67: Per cent of British Columbians polled said they would support bringing back the death penalty.
• 40: Per cent of British Columbians polled would prefer murderers get the death penalty rather than life imprisonment.
• 80: Per cent of British Columbians polled who oppose the death penalty said their concern is wrongfully convicted people could be executed.
• 1867: That was the year when Canadians first started opposing the death penalty, according to Amnesty International.
• 710: Executions were recorded in Canada prior to the elimination of the death penalty.
• 60: Per cent of British Columbians polled said since murderers have taken a life, then the death penalty would fit the crime.
