B.C. Supreme court judge awards $2.4M in car crash law suit
VERNON – A Salmon Arm man was awarded over $2.4 million by a B.C. Supreme Court judge in connection with a car crash near Salmon Arm three years ago.
Justice Allen Betton awarded the money to 21-year-old Quentin Hermanson.
Hermanson, formerly of Vernon, was a passenger in friend Ryan Durkee’s vehicle. They were driving on a forestry road in the Salmon Arm area when the vehicle left the road. He suffered a traumatic brain jury and a ruptured spleen.
Ryan Durkee and Troy Durkee were the defendants in the civil suit.
According to Justice Betton’s judgment, Hermanson suffers from “significant physical and cognitive symptoms due to the brain injury.”
He hasn’t been able to keep a job since his recovery and rehabilitation and currently lives with his mother.
The award is to replace the money he won’t earn in the future and for his specialized care.
