CHICAGO – The Latest on reported spikes in shooting violence in Chicago (all times local):

Chicago police say a 10-year-old injured her arm as she fled from another instance of gun violence in the city.

A department spokesman says police initially believed the girl was hit by gunfire in the Thursday afternoon shooting but later learned she was hurt as she ran away.

Police say two men were hit and wounded as someone approached them on a porch in a neighbourhood on the west side of Chicago and started shooting.

Police say the girl was in hospital in fair condition with an arm injury. A 30-year-old man was in serious condition with leg, arm and chest wounds. And a 25-year-old suffered ankle wounds and was in fair condition.

Chicago police say a 10-year-old girl has been injured as a result of the latest instance of gun violence in the city.

A department spokeswoman says two men were wounded in the Thursday afternoon shooting while all three were on a porch in a neighbourhood on the west side of Chicago.

Officer Bari Lemmon says preliminary reports indicate someone approached the porch and began firing.

A 30-year-old man was in serious condition with leg, arm and chest wounds. And a 25-year-old suffered ankle wounds and was in fair condition.

Police said earlier Thursday that August was deadliest month in Chicago for two decades, with 90 homicides recorded. There were a total of 472 shooting victims.

The Chicago Police Department says the city recorded 90 homicides in August, its highest monthly death toll in 20 years.

The department on Thursday released data for last month.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the previous highest monthly homicide tally in Chicago was in August 1996, citing historic Chicago Police Department data. It did not provide the number of deaths.

The 90 homicides for this August compared to 54 killed in the same month last year. Police say they made 18 per cent more murder arrests this August compared to August 2015.

Police say there were 384 shooting incidents and 472 shooting victims during August 2016.

The department says five districts on the city’s South and West sides account for the majority of the violence.
