Police report another long list of bicycles stolen in the area over the past week. A local Facebook group has formed to help identify and recover stolen bikes in the city. Steve Arstad

PENTICTON – Bicycle thefts continue to occur at an alarming rate in Penticton and a Facebook group has been created to help reunite stolen bikes with their owners.

RCMP Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says the theft of numerous bikes in the city and outlying communities last week including the following incidents:

  • Two bikes stolen from a residence on Railway Lane in Okanagan Falls overnight Monday, Aug.1. A blue and white Norco Kokanee and a green and black Myka, valued at $2,000 each were reported missing.
  • A white, teal Myka Specialized bike was taken from a South Main Street, Penticton address the same night.
  • A boys’ black and blue mountain bike was stolen from a Braelyn Crescent address Tuesday night.
  • A 21 speed purple bike was stolen from a Calgary Avenue address.
  • Overnight on Wednesday, Aug. 3, a red and white mountain bike was taken from a Perkins Crescent address. The chain was cut.
  • Police report the theft of a Rocky Mountain Pipeline mountain bike, valued at $5,000 from an undisclosed location overnight Aug.3.
  • On Aug. 8, two mountain bikes were reported taken from the back of a pickup truck parked at the Ramada Inn.

A Facebook group called Stolen/missing bikes in Penticton has been created in recent weeks to help find and return stolen bikes.

Members are encouraged to post a description, a photo and the police file number of their missing bicycle.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
