
Yukon’s premier-elect Sandy Silver is a consensus-builder
DAWSON CITY, Yukon – Sandy Silver led the Liberal party from just one seat in Yukon’s legislature to a majority government in Monday night’s election. Here’s a sketch of the territory’s premier-elect:
Roots: Grew up in Antigonish, N.S. Came to Yukon in 1996.
Age: 47
Personal: Single
Education: Degrees in math and psychology from Saint Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia; bachelor of education from the University of Maine.
Career before politics: Math teacher. Has worked with First Nations teacher education programs and youth and restorative justice programs.
Political career: First elected to Yukon Assembly in 2011. Chosen party leader in February 2014.
Other activities: Plays guitar, drums and sings. Has performed with many Yukon bands.
