Judicial recount ordered in Barrie, Ont., and Riviere-du-Loup ridings
OTTAWA – A third federal election result will be subject to a judicial recount, Elections Canada said Tuesday.
A recount has been ordered in the Quebec riding of Montmagny-L’Islet-Kamouraska-Riviere-du-Loup.
On election night, Conservative Bernard Genereux won by 269 votes over Liberal Marie-Josee Normand.
A recount will also be held in the Ontario riding of Barrie–Springwater–Oro-Medonte, where Conservative Alex Nuttall won by 108 votes over Liberal Brian Tamblyn.
On the weekend, a recount was ordered in the riding of Edmonton Mill Woods, which Liberal Amarjeet Sohi won by 79 votes over Conservative Tim Uppal.
Judicial recounts are mandatory if the vote margin difference between the first and second-place candidates is less than one one-thousandth of the valid votes cast.
They can also be done at the request of a candidate if there are questions about miscounted or rejected ballots.
The three recounts ordered so far came at the request of candidates.
