TransAlta Corp. (TSX:TA). Utilities. Down 19 cents, or 3.42 per cent, to $5.37 on 14.1 million shares.

Baytex Energy Corp. (TSX:BTE). Oil and gas. Down 13 cents, or 2.29 per cent, to $5.55 on 12.6 million shares.

Enerplus Corp. (TSX:ERF). Oil and gas. Down 13 cents, or 1.94 per cent, to $6.56 on 10.7 million shares.

Seven Generations Energy Ltd. (TSX:VII). Oil and gas. Up 62 cents, or 4.12 per cent, to $15.67 on 9.8 million shares.

Canadian Oil Sands Ltd. (TSX:COS). Oil and gas. Up 23 cents, or 2.76 per cent, to $8.56 on 2.9 million shares. The Alberta Securities Commission issued a compromise ruling after markets closed saying COS can stall a hostile takeover bid by oilsands behemoth Suncor Energy (up 62 cents, or 1.71 per cent, to $38.90 on 3.4 million shares) for a month, until Jan. 4. COS put in place a poison pill defence shortly after Suncor took its all-stock bid directly to investors on Oct. 5 in a move that would have given it 120 days, or until early February, to drum up a better offer. Suncor has said it won’t extend the bid beyond its Dec. 4 deadline.

BlackBerry Ltd. (TSX:BB). Wireless communications. Up 21 cents, or 2.02 per cent, to $10.62 on 1.9 million shares. BlackBerry said it is standing firm on its decision to close operations in Pakistan rather than accept that country’s demands for “unfettered” access to its BES servers, even after a one-month delay in the government’s deadline.
