Former Argos offensive lineman Danny Nykoluk passes away at age 82
TORONTO – Danny Nykoluk, a former standout offensive lineman with the Toronto Argonauts, has died at the age of 82.
The Argos announced Tuesday that Nykoluk, a Toronto native, died Friday. The cause of death was not divulged.
The six-foot-three, 250-pound Nykoluk spent 16 seasons with Toronto (1955, 1957-1971), playing in 204 career games.
Nykoluk went 12 straight seasons (1959-70) without missing a game.
“Our rich history was written by great players like Danny,” Argos president and CEO Michael Copeland said in a statement. “We will be forever grateful for the contributions he made to the Argos.
“On behalf of our entire organization, including our fans, we send our deepest condolences to his friends and family.”
Nykoluk was twice named an East Division all-star. In 1996 he was honoured as an All-Time Argonaut and his No. 60 is one of only four to have been retired by the club.
