Blue Jays sign veteran pitcher Rafael Soriano to minor league contract
DUNEDIN, Fla. – The Toronto Blue Jays added more depth to their pitching staff Sunday, signing veteran right-hander Rafael Soriano to a minor league contract with an invite to major league spring training.
The 36-year-old Soriano signed with the Chicago Cubs last June and appeared in just six games during the 2015 season.
He has posted 40-plus saves on three occasions, including a league-leading 45 for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2010.
Soriano has a 24-28 record with a 2.89 earned-run average and 207 saves for six different clubs — Seattle, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, the New York Yankees, Washington and Cincinnati.
