
Trial of Calgary mom accused of killing newborns to see video interview
CALGARY – The trial of a Calgary woman accused of killing two of her newborn babies is to see a video of her initial interview with police.
Meredith Borowiec (BOHR’-uh-WIK’), who is 31, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of the infants in 2008 and 2009.
She is also accused of leaving a third baby in a garbage bin in 2010 and faces a separate trial on attempted murder in the fall.
Police Det. Christina Witt told court she was called in shortly after the baby was found and talked with Borowiec after she was taken to a hospital emergency ward.
She testified Borowiec confirmed that her boyfriend, who helped rescue the squalling infant, was the father of the child.
Witt says she cautioned the accused that she could be formally charged with child abandonment, attempted murder and failing to provide the necessities of life.
