Lake Country councillor steps down for District position

LAKE COUNTRY – The District of Lake Country will be holding a byelection for two vacant seats on council following the resignation of the councillor for Carr's Landing.

As of April 10, Matt Vader, who represents Carr's Landing on the district council, will be the manager of Strategic and Support Services, according to a media release.

This resignation leaves Lake Country council short two positions. The councillor for the Oyama ward, Owen Dickie, died on March 6.

“The creation of the position was approved by a previous council in 2010 and then put on hold due to the Business Systems Review,” Mayor James Baker says in the release.

Out of 45 applicants, Vader was deemed the best candidate for the job, Baker says.

Some of Vader’s new areas of focus will be providing guidance for corporate negotiations, as well as strategic support for Lake Country’s chief administrative officer Alberto De Feo. Additionally, Vader will work with De Feo on First Nations policy.

A byelection for both vacant wards is scheduled for Jun 24, 2017, with advance polls earlier that month.
