Kamloops cops probe residential arson

Kamloops firefighters doused a house fire earlier this month, and police suspect it’s a case of arson.

Emergency crews responded to the blaze around 2 a.m., June 19, at a home on the 2400 block of Young Ave. After the fire cleared, Kamloops RCMP deemed it to be suspicious and believe it was intentionally set, according to a news release.

There was no one home at the time, but the house was heavily damaged inside in the blaze, Staff Sgt. Andy Lot of Kamloops RCMP told iNFOnews.ca.

Kamloops RCMP released a low-quality image from a nearby surveillance camera depicting a person who may be the perpetrator and was last seen walking near the intersection of Young Avenue and Windbreak Street at 2:25 a.m., according to the news release.

“We believe the individual captured in this image may have information that is important to our investigation,” Lot said in the release.

Police have not yet determined whether it was a targeted fire.

Kamloops RCMP are looking to the public for help identifying the man and seeking any dash camera or surveillance footage from the area around the time of the fire.
