NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – Massachusetts authorities say two boats owned by the imprisoned fishing magnate known as the Codfather have sunk.
The New Bedford Fire Department says the fishing vessels Dinah Jane and Nemesis sank early Monday morning. Officials say the vessels were part of Carlos Rafael’s fleet, and they will remain submerged until at least Tuesday when a proper lifting machine arrives.
The U.S. Coast Guard says both vessels were tied to each other in the New Bedford Harbor. No one was on board at the time of the sinking.
One boat temporarily leaked fuel into the harbour. Officials say the two vessels had a combined capacity of 9,500 gallons of fuel, and it is unclear how much was lost.
