Calgary Flames take centre Sean Monahan with sixth overall pick in NHL draft

NEWARK, N.J. – The Calgary Flames have selected centre Sean Monahan with the sixth pick in the NHL draft.

Monahan captained the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League this past season, putting up 31 goals and 47 assists.

Flames general manager Jay Feaster said he’d welcome the opportunity to get bigger given the amount of smaller players in the organization, and Monahan fits the bill at six-foot-two and 187 pounds.

Calgary also has the 22nd and 28th picks in the first round.
