RCMP investigating interrupted Penticton thefts

PENTICTON – Penticton RCMP are investigating several thefts that took place last week in the city.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says staff members opening up Penticton Fabricating on Barnes Avenue in the early morning hours of July 27 surprised two thieves, who were exiting the building and running down the rear alley of the business.

Access was gained through a rear window, as a ladder was found propped up against the rear wall.

Inside, petty cash and money from a soft drink vending machine was missing.

Police are looking at video surveillance and the RCMP's forensic identification team are also investigating.

In a second incident, reported the same day, an Albert Street resident reported his 2001 Honda dirt bike missing around 6:15 a.m.

Thieves had to lift it out of the back of a pickup truck, scratching the vehicle, which had been backed up against the fence at the residence.

The bike has a faded front fender and has licence plate number 8B3 062.

A  Ridgedale Avenue resident called police on July 28 to report an attempted break and enter after the door to the garage was kicked in. Police believe the would-be thief didn't realize someone was home prior to kicking the door in.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014.
