Man arrested in Osoyoos for possession of drugs and weapons

OSOYOOS – Mounties pulled over a vehicle in Osoyoos and caught a whiff of something suspicious, leading to the discovery of drugs, weapons, cash and the arrest of a Calgary man.

Mounties stopped the black 2008 Jeep TJ for a traffic violation on Highway 3 at about 6:30 p.m. Sat. Oct. 4. According to a press release, the officer smelled a strong odour of marijuana and arrested the driver for drug possession. A police service dog named Jet helped police search the vehicle and led them to a speaker box nestled amongst various musical instruments and equipment inside the Jeep.

Among the items sniffed out were several vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana, located within one of the speakers. In all, about five pounds of marijuana, a machete, a large dagger and a significant quantify of cash were seized. The Jeep was also seized as offence-related property.

A 57-year-old Calgary man faces potential charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of proceeds of crime. He was released and will appear in court at a later date.
