Chargers WR Eddie Royal taken off field in ambulance after landing on back

SAN DIEGO – Chargers wide receiver Eddie Royal has been taken off the field in an ambulance after landing on his back while making a catch in practice.

After landing awkwardly, Royal walked to an adjoining field, where he received treatment from the team’s medical staff. It appeared he was given oxygen.

Coach Mike McCoy says Royal was suffering from shortness of breath and was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

An ambulance was driven onto the field, and Royal was sitting up on the stretcher as he was loaded inside.

A few teammates came over to check on him, including quarterback Philip Rivers and fellow wideout Robert Meachem.
