Five Quebec City police officers suspended over violent arrests of Black youth

Quebec City police say five officers have been suspended for their part in violent arrests of young Black people last weekend that were caught on video.

Video circulating online of the arrests shows officers early Saturday morning hitting, dragging and pinning on the ground young Black people in the Old Quebec district.

The police force and Quebec City’s mayor have expressed concern about what they saw.

Public Security Minister Geneviève Guilbault has announced an investigation by the province’s police ethics commissioner into the arrests.

Quebec City police have said an internal investigation is ongoing.

The five officers have been suspended with pay.
