Expect delays on the Coquihalla this long weekend

KAMLOOPS – Two major construction projects are expected to snarl the heavy traffic already expected on the Coquihalla Highway between Merritt and Hope over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Approximately 40 kilometres north of Hope, work is being done to build the Box Canyon chain-up area while 13 kilometres further north there are crews resurfacing four lanes of the Dry Gulch Bridge, according to a provincial government media release. Heavy traffic volumes are expected in both locations.

The province says police will be patrolling the areas to ensure drivers abide by the reduced speed limits in the construction zones.

Drivers are also reminded that winter tires are now mandatory on all high elevation roads including the Coquihalla Highway and Okanagan Connector.
