Central Alberta youth sentenced for threats on Facebook to shoot students, staff
RED DEER, Alta. – A teenager who made threats on Facebook to shoot students and staff at a central Alberta high school has been sentenced.
The 16-year-old, who can’t be named due to his age, had pleaded guilty to uttering threats and breaching probation.
A youth court judge in Red Deer on Thursday gave the boy credit for the four months he spent in custody and says he will remain on probation until next September.
The youth told the judge he is sorry and ashamed he let his anger get the best of him and says he never intended to follow through with his threat.
The judge told the youth he has a long life ahead of him and not to screw it up.
RCMP were alerted on April 4 to a Facebook post threatening students and faculty at Lindsay Thurber High School.
