Vancouver’s Vasek Pospisil lost to Britain’s Daniel Evans 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 on Saturday in the semifinal of the Odlum Brown VanOpen.
Evans, ranked 310th in the world, will now face Australia’s Jason Kubler, who defeated France’s Gregory Barrere in three sets of 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2 in Sunday’s final.
The Briton pulled away in the second and third sets with a 93 per cent efficency on first serve.
Pospisil, ranked 94th in the world, scored 11 aces, including five in the first set, and he made four double faults. Despite six double faults, Evans reached the final in two hours two minutes.
The match pitted Pospisil, who played at home and was the tournament’s favorite, in a rematch of the VanOpen’s 2013 final against Evans, which the Canadian won in three sets.
Pospisil also beat Evans in the first round of the Davis Cup World Group in 2017.
