ROCKY MOUNT, Va. – Virginia State Police say a man shot by an officer as he rammed law enforcement officers’ vehicles is facing charges.
Police said in a statement late Monday that 37-year-old Gary Turner of Boones Mill has been charged with attempting to elude police and two counts of destruction of property.
Police say a Rocky Mount officer and Franklin County sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a pickup truck and driver on Saturday night that matched an alert. But police say Turner tried to flee, ramming their vehicles. Police say the officer fired at the truck, which got away, only to be stopped nearby.
Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says Turner was shot once. He was charged after his release from a hospital Monday.
Police didn’t release officer’s name or race or Turner’s race.
