Ottawa to eliminate deficit in 14 months; to run surplus afterwards
OTTAWA – Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty says he expects the government will be back in balance in about 14 months and run a surplus from that point on.
The minister’s statement suggests the federal government will have eliminated the deficit by March of 2015.
The minister made the comment during his opening remarks before the Senate finance committee.
