Burnt Enderby gas station to reopen with new restaurant

ENDERBY – There are rumblings of a fast food chain being built at the burnt down Enderby gas station.

Like George Clooney’s whereabouts while filming Tomorrowland, the restaurant is being kept hush-hush. All anybody knows is that it’s part of the rebuild of the Super Save Gas Station, which burnt down Nov. 19.

Kathy Oberle, owner of the D&E Drive Inn, says the community is definitely talking about it. Calls to the Splatsin Band, on whose territory the Super Save sits, were not returned, though the Quilakwa Super Save store makes note of the restaurant on its Facebook page.

“The rumour is they’re keeping it a secret because they don’t even know themselves,” Oberle says.

“We’ve been going around thinking, okay, what kind of little chain restaurants are already in gas stations?”

D&E has been up for sale for some years now, and Oberle says they contacted all the chain restaurants from Tim Hortons to A&W to see if they’d be interested in the property.

“They said our population isn’t big enough,” she says. “So I’m curious what’s going in there.”

Except for a Subway, Enderby has no chain restaurants. Nearby Armstrong has several, as well as a Tim Hortons currently under construction.

Whatever the restaurant is, it will add another option for hungry drivers traveling Highway 97 .
