Kelowna Rockets slam Winterhawks at Prospera

KELOWNA – The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Portland Winterhawks 6-2 on Friday night at Prospera Place, winning the first of two games in Kelowna this weekend between the two WHL rivals.

Goalie Jordon Cooke stopped 41 of 43 shots in a first star performance as the Rockets improved to 4-0-0-1 and are now the only team in the WHL without a regulation time loss.

Nick Merkley and Myles Bell each scored twice while Riley Stadel and Colton Heffley also scored for the Rockets while Taylor Leier and Alex Schoenborn replied for the Winterhawks.

For Merkley, the 16-year-old rookie now has five goals in five games, leading all WHL rookies.

Kelowna and Portland will play again at Prospera Place in Kelowna Saturday night.
