UPDATE: Motorcyclist dies in crash on Old Kamloops Road in Vernon
VERNON – Police have confirmed a 19-year-old motorcycle driver is dead after a crash on Old Kamloops Road in Vernon today.
Vernon RCMP and traffic services are currently on scene investigating, Const. Kelly Brett says in a news release. Just before 1 p.m. today, July 6, RCMP responded to a single motorcycle collision in the 5300 block of Old Kamloops Road.
The man was the single rider of the motorcycle, and police say he has died as a result of his injuries.
RCMP have not identifed the man.
An RCMP collision analyst is further investigating on the scene, Brett says. This comes on the heels of a previous motorcycle crash this morning on Highway 97, when the rider was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
"The rider of the motorcycle in the earlier collision is lucky to be alive, however the collision on Old Kamloops Road has turned tragic for the rider, his family and friends," Brett says in the release.
Old Kamloops Road remains closed, and you can check Drive B.C. for alternate routes.
If you witnessed the crash and haven't spoken to police, call 250-545-7171.
