New curator to oversee Penticton’s history

PENTICTON – The City has named Dennis Oomen as the new curator for the Penticton Museum and Archives after losing former curator Peter Ord to the Royal B.C. Museum.

Oomen has worked all over Canada at prestigious museums including the Federal Canadian Museum of Civilization in Hull, Que., The Museum of Nature, the National Aviation Museum, Calgary’s Glenbow Museums, the Kelowna Museums, and most recently as curator at the Kamloops Museum and Archives.

“Dennis brings a wealth of experience in the heritage and knowledge industry, and has overseen operations in several museums throughout Canada,” says Chuck Loewen, general manager of the City’s recreation and facilities. “He will be an excellent steward of Penticton’s history for generations to come.”

Oomen will begin his position on Nov. 18, 2014.
