Cariboo district expands evacuation order for Shag Creek wildfire

WILLIAMS LAKE – More properties are on evacuation alert today due to the Shag Creek wildfire.

This morning, Aug. 11, the Cariboo Regional District has expanded the existing order for 901 properties in the North Western district boundary to west of Nazko.

A media release states the following properties on the Kluskus Forest Service Road will be evacuated by helicopter:

• District Lot 1833
• Block A, District Lot 91,
• Block B, District Lot 91,
• District Lot 92

For the remaining properties in the evacuation order, depending on the location of the property, there are two available evacuation routes:

• Some residents may need to take the Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail to Batnuni Road, to Blackwater Road through Quesnel and North to Prince George via Highway 97.
• Some residents may need to take the Nazko Road to Blackwater Road through Quesnel, North to Prince George via Highway 97.

Evacuees can register at the ESS Reception Centre at Exhibition Park at Ospika Boulevard and 18th Avenue in Prince George.

Those who have a primary residence outside of the evacuation order, will not be eligible for Emergency Support Services (ESS) says the release.

The Shag Creek fire is an estimated seven thousand hectares in size, and began Wednesday Aug. 1 due to a possible lightning strike.
