Calgary Flames hire Brad Treliving from Coyotes as new general manager

The Calgary Flames have a new general manager.

A source tells The Canadian Press that Brad Treliving has been hired by the NHL team. An official announcement is expected later today.

Treliving had served as assistant GM of the Phoenix Coyotes for the past seven seasons.

Flames president of hockey operations Brian Burke served as interim GM after firing Jay Feaster in December.

Treliving, a native of Penticton, B.C., is also assistant GM for Team Canada at the IIHF world championship.

He previously served as president of the Central Hockey League and president and director of hockey operations for the Western Professional Hockey League, which he founded.
