GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina A&T State University is evacuating several buildings and advising other students to take shelter after a report of a man with a rifle on campus.
An alert posted on the university’s home page and Twitter account shortly after 10 a.m. Eastern (1400 GMT) Monday advised of the campus-wide lockdown after the man was spotted in a campus building. According to a university spokeswoman and a string of Twitter messages from the university’s account, campus police received a report of an armed gunman in the General Classroom Building. The advisory says police are sweeping and evacuating the building.
N.C. A&T is a historically black university with about 9,000 undergraduate students and a more than 700-acre (283-hectare) campus east of downtown Greensboro.
