How major US stock indexes fared on Monday

Stocks closed broadly lower Monday, led by declines in technology companies.

Energy stocks also declined as crude oil prices fell. Bond yields rose, weighing on utilities and other bond proxies. The market’s slide handed the Standard & Poor’s 500 index its biggest loss in more than four months and pulled the major indexes modestly below their recent record highs.
