KELOWNA – The latest donation to help create a Hybrid Operating Room at the New Interior Heart and Surgical Centre being built at Kelowna General Hospital is coming from the Warm Hearts Charitable Foundation.
A press release from the hospital refers to the Hybrid OR as one of the highest priority needs at the hospital and the $10,000 from Warm Hearts, a FortisBC employee charity fund, will go toward completing the project.
The Hybrid OR will enable teams for surgeons to perform combined minimally-invasive and traditional open surgical procedures in a single operating room. By employing minimally-invasive techniques, patients will spend less time in recovery, potentially translating from weeks to days spent in hospital.
KGH also believes the new OR will spur surgical innovation and offer opportunities for surgeons to think of new and different ways to care for patients with complex medical needs.
