Kamloops Symphony Orchestra director leaving position
KAMLOOPS – After 29 years at the helm of the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, the executive director will be leaving her position this June.
The Board of Directors of the Kamloops Symphony Society say in a media release that Kathy Humphreys has benefited the Kamloops arts community immensely since she started in 1990.
"It turned out that it wasn’t just a career move,” Humphreys says in the release. “It was to become a way of life that has given me immense joy and satisfaction, even when we faced challenges.”
“Kathy will leave a legacy,” music director Bruce Dunn says in the release. “The region has benefited and will continue to benefit from the results of her administrative skills over the years.”
Dunn says some highlights from her career include keeping the books balanced, avoiding any debt and increasing the organization's budget from $160,000 to more than $1,000,000 over nearly three decades. With her leadership the facilities have improved from a basement room in 1990 to the comprehensive studios and offices in Station Plaza. Then in 2009 Humphrey was presented with the Orchestras Canada Betty Webster Award, a national award for outstanding service to Canada’s orchestral community.
The search for her successor will commence immediately.
