Improper tire installation factor in young man’s death

KAMLOOPS – Mismatched tires improperly installed by a young Kamloops man have been deemed a determining factor in his death.

The B.C. Coroner's Service released an investigation report into the death of 22-year-old Myles Wolfe who died in single vehicle roll over last year in Kamloops.

Conclusions in the report determined multiple factors caused the accident: mismatched and incorrectly installed tires, slippery road conditions and failure to wear a seatbelt.

"They were both directional tires but had been mounted in the wrong direction," wrote Coroner Margaret Janzen in her investigation report. "Investigation revealed that the tires had not been mounted by a garage and were installed by Mr. Wolfe."

Wolfe was travelling east on the Trans Canada Highway Columbia Street overpass around 2 p.m. Oct. 23, 2012 when he lost control, slid across the road and tumbled down an embankment. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

He was taken to Royal Inland Hospital after suffering extensive skull fractures and died three days later from the head injuries he sustained.
