Turkish man charged over stabbing death of Serbian basketball fan

ANKARA, Turkey – Turkey’s state-run news agency says an Istanbul court has charged a Turkish man with murder over the stabbing death of a Serbian basketball fan and ordered him imprisoned pending trial.

The 25-year-old Serbian, Marko Ivkovic, was killed last week before a Euroleague basketball match between Turkish team Galatasaray and Serbia’s Red Star in Istanbul.

Turkish police this week detained seven people for questioning over Ivkovic’s death.

The Anadolu Agency said one of the suspects — identified as Kadri Aktas — was charged Friday.

The six others were released after questioning, but could still face charges.
