B.C. Premier Clark looks to future goals in key speech to civic leaders

VICTORIA – Premier Christy Clark is expected to tell B.C.’s municipal leaders where she plans to take the province in the months leading up to May’s election.

Clark is set to deliver the key speech today to municipal politicians attending the annual Union of B.C. Municipalities convention.

Her speech comes a day after Opposition New Democrat Leader Adrian Dix announced he is preparing to dump the province’s balanced budget law if he’s elected premier.

Clark has been through a particularly rough period lately, losing her former chief of staff, Ken Boessenkool, who left his post after admitting to an act of unspecified inappropriate behaviour.

The premier has also lost several veteran cabinet ministers to retirement and her Liberals are trailing well behind the New Democrats in public opinion polls.

Government insiders say Clark will deliver a detail-laden speech that includes tangible news as opposed to provincial cheer leading.
