Vancouver cold case leads to Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – A cold case is closer to being solved with the identification of remains found in Vancouver in 1975.

The B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of the man. He was Alexander Francis Gammie, 22, from Kamloops. He was reported missing from his hometown in May 1975.

His body was found in Vancouver and transported to Saint Pauls Hospital for further examination but his identity was unknown. He remained unidentified even after extensive efforts by police and coroners. 

Forensic analysis not available in 1975 and the application of an enhanced identification model developed locally by the Identification and Disaster Response Unit of the Coroners Service was used to figure out who the man was.

The family of Gammie has been notified of his death.
