Cooler weather expected in Kamloops this week

KAMLOOPS – Kamloops will start and end the week with seasonal temperatures but a cold front expected tomorrow should drop overnight temperatures below freezing through midweek.

The cold front has prompted a weather alert from Environment Canada as periods of snow developing over local mountain passes cold bring upwards of 5 to 10 cm to Rogers Pass, Coquihalla and Allison passes, and the Okanagan connector through tonight and Tuesday.

Environment Canada says to expect cloudy conditions with a 40 per cent chance of showers today, with winds east at 30 km/h becoming southwest and gusting to 50 this afternoon, with a high of 17 Celsius and a low of 5 tonight.

Periods of rain are expected to end around midnight with the snow level dropping to 1,000 metres and winds becoming light tonight.

Tuesday should see mainly cloudy conditions in Kamloops with a 40 per cent chance of showers and wet flurries over higher terrain.

The snow level is expected to drop to 800 metres with north-west winds at 20 km/h gusting to 40 Tuesday morning, with a high of 8 C and a low of 1 C.

Sunny but cool conditions are expected Wednesday, with a high of 8 C and a low of -1 C.

Thursday, the sun continues with a rebound in the daytime high to 14 C, and a low of 0 C.

Sunny skies continue Friday with a high of 13 C and a low of 2 C

The start of the long weekend looks seasonal, with a mix of sun and clouds and highs of 14 C on Saturday and Sunday.

Kamloops normal high and low for this time of year is 16 C and 4 C.
