NAKUSP — Mounties say the deaths of two people found up an isolated forest service road in British Columbia are not believed to be criminal in nature.

Police say they were called June 16 after a burned vehicle and a body were found on the Tate Creek Forest Service Road near Nakusp, in the province’s southeast.

A statement says it appears the vehicle became stuck in very difficult terrain and caught fire.

A deceased man was located nearby with burn injuries.

Police say the body of a woman was also located in the area but that no obvious injuries were observed.

Corp. Paul Britton of the Nakusp RCMP says in the statement that the pair have been tentatively identified but that police are working with the BC Coroners Service to confirm their names and advance the investigation.

“While the investigation remains in the early stages and no conclusions have been made, evidence at the scene suggests that criminality is not a factor in either death,” the statement says.
