iN VIDEO: Kelowna driver arrested after creating mayhem on the road

Police arrested a man in Kelowna after he caused a crash and threw debris out his window onto the road.

Kelowna RCMP responded to a call about a crash between a grey SUV and a grey Ford Freestar van in the 1700-block of Harvey Avenue around 11:15 a.m. on Jan. 18, according to a press release from police.

Police were told the van with the BC license plate NS748F made a U-turn then drove the wrong way down the highway, crashed into the SUV and fled the scene.

“We believe this individual is linked to several other incidents including a video circulating online of the driver throwing debris out his window along Harvey Avenue,” Cpl. Michael Gauthier said in the release. “If someone witnessed this driver committing an offence and they’re willing to come forward with their evidence, please contact us directly at 250-762-3300.”

A video is circulating on social media of a van matching the license plate provided by RCMP.

In the video the driver is throwing things out the window, including a bucket filled with bits of metal.

RCMP said the suspect driver was also seen outside of a business in the 200-block of Rutland Road North where he allegedly damaged a storefront window around 11:45 a.m.

Police arrested the suspect without incident, and he was later released.

His van has been towed and he’s facing several fines including not having a driver’s license, not having insurance and driving without due care and attention.

RCMP said there’s no criminal investigation at this time.
