Vernon’s Field of Screams unleashes four new nightmares

Are you ready to scream?

Autumn is officially in full swing, and with the falling of dead leaves comes the local haunts entrancing the region in spooky atmospheres, scary actors, and mazes that will have you screeching in both excitement and terror.

The annual Field of Screams is back in Vernon this year. From Sept. 26 to Nov. 2, you can get your friends and family into the Halloween spirit through four expansive mazes that are sure to delight and scare audiences at the same time. Each corn maze has its own theme and is fully equipped with an immersive design like what you’d find on a film set. Actors prowl the grounds in their own bone-chilling attire as they remain in character throughout the night, ensuring you’ll find a startling thrill no matter which maze you try.

Ticketholders can select how many mazes they’d like to attend on a single night, which begins at 6 p.m. when their parking lot opens. To help you plan your evening, we encourage you to read the full descriptions of each maze in advance.

Unless you enjoy the thrill of the unknown, of course.

‘Hide and Shriek’ is a psychological horror maze crossing between the veil of the living and dead as guests uncover the origins of Meredith, a lost soul leaving carnage in her wake.

‘A.I. Kill Switch’ takes place deep in the cornstalks, where a blacksite overtaken by machines are attempting to perfect synthetic life.

‘Mount Wendigo’ haunts audiences with a gripping tale of the trappers and miners who never escaped the remote, treacherous mountains —even though they did the unthinkable to survive.

Lastly, ‘Blood Moon Mardi Gras’ compels you to follow a vampire and witch doctor into the darkest depths of New Orleans as you join the parade of the damned.

While we know you might be tempted to bring the entire family with you, the organizers recommend that children aged 12 or under skip the mazes, as it’s recommended for older audiences. However, it’s up to every parent to decide what they’re comfortable exposing their children to. If you’re looking for something more family-friendly, there is also their Halloween Family Fun Night, which is hosted on Halloween day.

They’ve been hosting this horror festival annually since its inception in 2013.

Tickets start at $15 for a single maze and vary depending on General or VIP status, as well as how many mazes you intend on surviving. They can be purchased here.
