The wildfire sparked near Kalamoir Regional Park in West Kelowna today that threatened hundreds of homes in West Kelowna is now being held, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
The wildfire prompted evacuation orders and alerts for hundreds properties.
The originally out of control fire was spotted near Bowen Creek shortly after 11 a.m. today, June 16, and grew to eight hectares quickly pushed by a high wind.
West Kelowna fire crews, with support from the wildfire service that included ground personnel and aircraft, managed to get the human-caused fire held by the early evening. The cause is under investigation.

Central Okanagan Emergency Operations originally had several streets in Lakeview Heights and Casa Loma under a tactical evacuation. That was upgraded to an evacuation order for 357 properties later in the day.
As of 3:45 p.m., an evacuation alert was put in place for another 385 properties.

The evacuation orders are expected to be lifted by the emergency operations centre. For more information go to the emergency operations centre website here.
