Prominent Penticton shop owner loses her cancer fight

The owner of Penticton shop the Grooveyard, lost her battle to cancer.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our founder and co-owner LeAnne Jakubeit from battling cancer. To honour her memory and allow staff time to grieve…we will be closed tomorrow, Sunday Nov 22,"  a post on the Grooveyard's Facebook page reads.

Jakubeit is the wife of former Penticton mayor Andrew Jackubeit. They co-owned the record store The Grooveyard for three decades, lived in the city just as long and had two children and a grandchild.

Jakubeit's music store was a local staple and despite ebbs and flows in the market maintained its prominence.  For over 30 years The Grooveyard has been Penticton’s cool and funky record shop.
