WHL roundup: Oil Kings drill visiting Warriors 4-1

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oil Kings built a 4-0 lead halfway through the game and then hung on to beat the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors 4-1 in Western Hockey League action on Saturday.

Poul Anderson, Miroslav Holinka, Cage Smith and Andrew O’Neill scored for the Oil Kings (6-2-0-0), who led 1-0 after the first period and 4-1 heading into the third at Rogers Place.

Kash Andresen scored for the Warriors (4-3-1-0), who were outshot 45-17 and were 0-for-4 on the power play.

Goaltender Parker Snell stopped 16 of 17 shots for the Oil Kings, who were 0-for-5 on the power play.

Kyle Jones stopped 41 of 45 shots for the Warriors.

Cameron Schmidt, Blake Chorney and Ty Halaburda (empty-netter) also scored for the Giants (3-6-0-0), who outshot the hosts 32-12.

Cohen Klassen scored for the Pats (1-5-0-0), who got a 28-save performance from netminder Marek Schlenker.

Burke Hood stopped 11 of 12 shots for the Giants, who went 0-for-1 on the power play.

Ashton Brown scored at 16:51 of the third period to tie the game for the Royals (3-2-2-0) and force the OT session. The Royals were 0-for-6 on the power play.
